A Teacher is a Teacher (Not a Regular Person)

I have had the following conversation with several different children on many different occasions:

Child: Miss Rachel, are you married?
Me: No, I'm not.
At this point the child will get a very quizzical look on their face and pause for a minute, then ask:
Then who do you live with???

This made me wonder. It seems that the children all have a very clear picture of what teacher is and being married is apparently part of that picture!

And students' (perhaps unreasonable) expectations for teachers continue for years....I can remember the shocked expressions on my college students' faces when they saw me exiting the liquor store with a brown bag or walking around campus hand-in-hand with a boyfriend!

Glad to see you're blogging about the memorable moments at school--have fun with it!
